Mad Mackerel Recommends... Pickering Pick

Until a couple of days ago we were ignorant to the delights of folky singer-songwriter Pickering Pick and his new album titled (Tropic).

Not so now. We’ve put that right, for (Tropic) is an album of rare beauty – warm, sensitive, thoughtful and restrained. A record that allows the music, no matter how gentle, even fragile at times, to have the space to spread its wings and then to completely disarm the listener into succumbing to all its hidden charms.

It is lyrically eloquent and the fingerpicked instrumentation is exquisitely played; creating an overall piece that is minimal but never stark, and which will be getting plenty of plays on the MM stereo.

On reflection, that album cover seems entirely appropriate.

If you were as ignorant as us, try the gorgeous Standing Stone below. It is out via Yer Bird Records and can be ordered via Bandcamp here.

  1. This is such an honest and beautiful album. Be sure to check out Tiger Balm and Prayer Flag too. Everything I’ve heard from this guy is great.
