Let’s hope the next 365 days are a vast improvement on 2016. Fingers crossed Trump gets impeached, we somehow find a way back into the EU, Sunderland don’t get relegated, Yorkshire reach the T20 finals again, there are new albums from Wooden Wand, Deer Tick and Phosphorescent, and Neil Young and Bob Dylan manage to stay alive. That would do nicely for starters.

Let us kick off the year with this barnstormer from garage blues rockers Kings of Lowertown, a longstanding MM fave. and Burning Black Diesel is one of their best tracks yet.

As the cliche goes, play loud.

Kings of Lowertown

Kings Of Lowertown are from Pembroke, Ontario. Their new single Quebec Roulette is a gritty blues track written in the vein of Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits.

The song was inspired by the rough and tumble of Chapeau, Quebec – just across the mighty Ottawa River from Pembroke.

Stream it below.

Long standing MM faves Kings Of Lowertown are offering up another pay-what-you-want deal on Bandcamp.

This time it is for the electrifying dirt track blues of Beautiful Nothing.

It is straight from the top drawer. Spin it below.

We really don’t post as many videos as we should… so as usual here is our rather feeble attempt to clear the backlog of some of the excellent musical films we’ve seen recently.

More From Kings Of Lowertown

Here is another track from Kings Of Lowertown, this time they have slowed the pace to a more sedate rolling blues with vocals that Tom Waits would be proud of…

New From The Kings Of Lowertown

The mighty Kings Of Lowertown are about to release their first single of 2015.

New Orleans Woman is a bourbon soaked, blues shoutin’, Preservation Hall inspired song that checks in at a blazing 2 minutes and 36 second combination of dirt-blues and crazy jazz.

The track is the follow-up to Kings Of Lowertown’s brilliant, slide-guitar drenched Swamp King collaboration with bassist Mike Watt (The Minutemen, The Stooges). Also, the band will be releasing their digital 2014 Mississippi Flood/Blues Haul single as a double A-side single on vinyl in the early part of this year.

For now though, this is just the way we like it. Have a listen…

MM Shorts 616: Kings Of Lowertown

The excellent Kings Of Lowertown have made a new track available for a name-your-price download via Bandcamp.

Swamp King is slower, a gritty and gravelly blues number that pulses with restrained longing.

MM Shorts 477: Kings Of Lowertown

Here is another slab of gritty blues stomp from Ontario’s Kings Of Lowertown.

Blues Haul is the flipside to their brilliant Mississippi Flood track (posted here), which will be pressed on vinyl later in 2014 as a double A side release.
