Drahla cover Psychic TV
We’re big fans of Drahla’s queasy, hypnotic psych rock and their choice to cover Psychic TV’s 1985 gem Godstar seems like a match made in musical heaven. A homage to Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, I remember buying the original 7″ in Woolworths, and playing it on repeat. Times change, but this version more than does justice to the original. Give it a spin. … Continue reading Drahla cover Psychic TV
Drahla Share Pyramid Estate
Leeds-based post-punk outfit Drahla have shared a new single from their upcoming Useless Coordinates LP due out 3rd May on Captured Tracks. Pyramid Estate is another wonderfully disorientating track, clocking in at less than two minutes, thriving on hectic collisions and a sense of hazy, fragmented confusion (particularly some wonderfully skronky saxophone that could have come from a classic Gong album) to create something wholly … Continue reading Drahla Share Pyramid Estate
Drahla Announce Useless Coordinates
Having made our Best Of lists for last year with the brilliant Twelve Divisions Of The Day, Leeds based Drahla have announced the release of Useless Coordinates, a debut ten track album that will see a release via Captured Tracks on the 3rd May. Stimulus for Living is the queasily brilliant first taste from the record. All their wiry, naggingly insistent post-punk credentials are firmly … Continue reading Drahla Announce Useless Coordinates
Mad Mackerel’s Favourite Songs of the Year – Part 2 (75-51)
The second instalment of our favourite tracks of 2018. Enjoy… 75 Holly Miranda – Golden Spiral This wonky, horn-led track taken from her excellent Mutual Horse album, dips its toes into the swirling whirlpools of off-kilter indie pop with a buoyant rhythmic pulse and nods to glam rock and funk. 74 Ezra Furman – Suck The Blood From My Wound Suck The … Continue reading Mad Mackerel’s Favourite Songs of the Year – Part 2 (75-51)
Drahla – Twelve Divisions Of The Day
At the tail end of last year we shared Drahla’s excellent track Silk Spirit, and now the Leeds three-piece have signed with Brooklyn’s wonderful Captured Tracks label and are back with a new single, Twelve Divisions Of The Day. It is another naggingly insistent tune blending the band’s wiry art-rock with krautrock inspired experimentalism, all underpinned by singer/guitarist Luciel Brown’s captivating spoken drawl. Love this. … Continue reading Drahla – Twelve Divisions Of The Day

MM Shorts 989: Drahla
We’re late to it, but we’re loving this track, Silk Spirit, from Leeds three-piece Drahla. It comes from their debut EP Third Article and blends wiry post-punk with splash of unpredictable art rock, and is anchored by a woozy, nagging riff that is a sonic delight. Stream it below and order the EP via Bandcamp here. Continue reading MM Shorts 989: Drahla
