100 Songs In 100 Hours: 49 – Maple Syrup

New Zealand’s Maple Syrup began a couple of years ago when Vera Ellen and Jerry Ramirez were experimenting with tape recordings on an old 4-track. Influenced by Ween and Bob Dylan they initially wrote lo-fi folk music with tuned up pitch and nonsensical lyrics. At this time they also consumed large amounts of the aforementioned maple syrup and hence it seemed like a fitting name to their musical project.

Now a three piece, their sound has evolved and developed, taking on a grungier tone at times, and six track debut EP Ace & Gab’s Honeymoon will see a release in April.

The EP opens with this sparkling indie-pop gem, Vacation.
