Today I ventured down to our local lido in the sunshine with the mackerel sprats for a birthday celebration, and boy, was it busy. I used to swim there in the silence of early summer mornings with a friend who emigrated to Colorado a few years back.

Farewells are always hard, particularly when you’re the one who’s staying put.  So this TFI Friday, I’m feeling a tad reflective and rather sentimental as another very fond friend has left these shores for the land of muesli, Toblerone and Heidi.  She will be much missed.

As TFI is all about the good old stuff, here’s the very first Calexico song that made me realise that John, Joey and I would enjoy a long and meaningful connection. Over Your Shoulder is from their second album, The Black Light, and is just about where I am today.
