Nearly another year older and undoubtedly, not a whole lot wiser … MM gave me the new album by The Innocence Mission this week, My Room In the Trees (aah, if only). Now there’s a blast from the past. One note of Karen Peris’s fragile, ethereal notes and I’m instantly transported to a time when I nearly wore out the groove on my vinyl copy of The Innocence Mission’s inaugural offering. Those were the days: heavy black eye liner, a dead weight of silver bangles and floaty hippy skirts were de rigueur. Shame the flimsy skirts and my love of candles nearly resulted in third degree burns on a couple of occasions.
Anyway, my original record had long since gone the way of all much loved and over-played discs, so I was delighted to locate another copy from www.vinyltap.co.uk. In fact, if you listen carefully, you can hear an authentic crackle or three on both tracks I’ve chosen. This is the stuff my memories are made of.
Well, it is my birthday. Almost.
