We posted about the gentle folk sounds of White Pines a while back, early on in the days of Mad Mackerel.

White Pines is the project of songwriter Joseph Scott and we were pleased to get hold of a copy of his new album titled The Falls.

We’ve listened a few times and it is ten songs that seem inextricably linked to his experience as they guide us through a narrative of loss, hunger, and exuberant joy in the face of loneliness. They are beautifully constructed, sometimes using simple acoustic guitar, other times a fuller, bolder sound, but what we always have is his gorgeously warm, and slightly world weary voice – it is a voice that lifts the album and turns into something of such sweet sadness that you can literally feel the heartache pouring forth.

This looks to be one record that will retain our affections for a long time to come. The album is out next week on Yer Birds Records.
