Mrs Mackerel’s TFI Friday (on Saturday), 23rd April

Late again. Tsk. It only took a curry and a bit of ale. My mind wandered, as it often does.

It’s now one month until the much anticipated Cave Singers gig in Hoxton, Lahn-don. (Can I send a heartfelt wish into the ether: please play I Don’t Mind. A special and significant song for me. A signpost and a turning point. Fingers crossed.)

In fact, this led me onto thinking that I might piece together the whole TFI from different lyrics but then I got a bit self-conscious. And had drank too much ale and wine by this stage. So it was in danger of being a bit maudlin/reflective/bonkers. Don’t give yourself away.

I’ve gone from This Mortal Coil to The Butthole Surfers; from Johnny Cash to Laura Marling. And back again. Did I dream you dreamed about me?

Do not be afraid and maybe learn to let go. Oh my heart shies from the sorrow.

Wear then what you get.

[Did you follow? I hope not!]

Wishing you a cocoa-filled Easter Sunday, wherever you are.

Mrs Mackerel

Here’s a great tune. (Quit the room so our thoughts can rest.) It builds up quite slowly and then there’s an almighty bit of drumming to close (I always like to imagine Animal from the Muppets, and I mean that in the best possible taste). It’s my head down and dig deep kind of song.

It’s never too late to play The Bleeding Heart Show by The New Pornographers.
