UK expat and current resident of Durham, North Carolina, Dan Melchior has released more than 15 full-length albums on a diverse set of independent labels including In the Red, Siltbreeze and Sympathy For The Record Industry. For his latest release Catbirds And Cardinals he has found a home at Northern-Spy Records.

You may try to peg him as a bluesman or garage rocker, or even as a skewed C&W man, but Dan Melchior is perhaps best described as unflinchingly direct, with a sardonic wit and poetic melody, snarling and lunging towards a off-kilter vision all of his own making. Imagine if you will a cross between Jeffrey Lewis, Half Man Half Biscuit and the spirit of Johnny Cash all wrapped up in a hypnotically distorted fuzz that is as surreal as it is inspired.
