After posting about Savaging Spires last week, their record label Critical Heights got in touch to recommend recent Fire Records signing, The Virgin Passages.
This is the opening track from their first official album. Horizon is taken from the album of the same name and is due out in October 2011.
Virgin Passages have a most engaging folkish strum intersecting with psychedelic experimentation and a swirl of boy/girl harmonies and chanted refrains. It has echoes of early Animal Collective, Spiritualized and.
The press blurb sums it up nicely: “Outside the closed tavern and walking through a deserted field hours past when anyone should be about. We have all taken that walk at some point in our lives and can recall that feeling of dark possibilities lurking in the heavy corners of our eyes. Only broken by a low hanging red moon in its infinite beauty staring down at us, or a haze of fireflies sheltering our fragile souls from the world around. Its music to be alone with, while a thousand others stand in the same field – isolated – by your side.”
Take a listen – it’s euphoric, unhurried, hazy and hypnotic. We like it a lot.
