Folkish London duo The Skeleton Dead were originally a discovery of the esteemed Mrs Mackerel, and their brand of often malevolent, and occasionally macabre, lyrics contrast wonderfully with their sparsely delicate instrumentation. We previously described them as genuinely haunting – in the best sense of the word of course.

Now they have completed their self titled debut album and made it available for free download via Bandcamp here. The saying goes that when something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Well take our word for it – this is the exception to that rule.

But if you still need proof then a single listen to the previously posted Lock The Doors (a twisted new take on murder ballads), the heartbreakingly fatalistic Taken By The Tide or the pure mesmerising melancholia of Keep Your Eyes To The Ground – each and every one will do the job. Marvellous.
