I have to confess I was unacquainted with underground folk/rock crooner Donovan Quinn until an e-mail from Northern Spy Records arrived announcing his signing to the label and a two record deal.

The first of these, Honky Tonk Medusa is released on Valentines Day and is described as a story of decaying American cities, Internet age entropy and equal parts romance and loneliness. We are still getting to grips with the album as a whole, but we are gradually succumbing to its many charms and becoming increasingly confident it is going to be a grower and a keeper. Taster track Shadow On The Stone is a perfectly judged excursion into classic storytelling territory backed by gentle guitar lines and a slightly weary, melancholy tinged vocal. Lovely stuff.
