Mad Mackerel Recommends…Buxton

Mad Mackerel Recommends...Buxton.

For some inexplicable reason it has taken us far too long to put up a post about Buxton, especially considering what a delightful album they released at the end of January in the shape of Nothing Here Seems Strange.

Hailing from Houston Texas (incidentally the first place I ever visited in the States, and where hats were mighty impressive accessories for most folk in the airport), they describe their music as a study in contrasts: rock and folk, subtle yet eccentric, lush harmonies over prickly guitar.

We couldn’t have put it better ourselves. The band have released two previous albums which we’ll be sure to track down, but this latest offering is a beauty. In fact the lovely acoustic strum and gorgeous harmonised vocals of Lynchberg Ferry is already one of our favourites of the year so far here at MM. It is typical of an album that has clearly been lovingly crafted throughout and will certainly be something to treasure for anyone bitten by the Fleet Foxes or Bon Iver bug.

We have further evidence with album taster Boy Of Nine. Download it below or buy the album here.
