A while ago we posted a video by Heyward Howkins a singer songwriter described as equal parts British tweed (Nick Drake, John Cale, The Smiths) and dusty American flannel (Bon Iver, M. Ward, Damien Jurado) from his album, The Hale & Hearty.
He has now made a track available for free download and Spanish Moss is well worth checking out, having enough of an element of surprise about it to set it apart from the usual troubadour’s fare. It is reminiscent of the album as a whole which is a winning and cohesive combination of honey-smooth vocals and unusual instrumentation and arrangements.
Hale & Hearty will be available on June 26 via iTunes, Amazon, and (in the US at least), your local record store.
