We are a little late to the undeniable charms of Theatre Royal.
However, once we’d played their recent single A Hundred Thousand Tears a couple of times we figured we needed to put that right. The track is a melancholic, harmony drenched, psyche-country shuffle, replete with flugelhorn solo plus some ‘la la la’s’ to boot!
It was the second taster of their sophomore album At The End Of A River, The Sea…, which will now be released on the 5th November via The Preservation Society Presents label. However, don’t be misled – this is not simply a record of Country tinged Americana, as the record willingly embraces a whole host of influences from the Velvet Underground and The Who and classic early REM and even Guided By Voices.
Have a listen to it, and the country-rock tinged I’m Leaving In The Morning (I Don’t Think I’m Alive), then change up a gear with a download of edgy album opener Powder Blue and revel in its freakout climax.
