We’ve been meaning to post about New Zealand band The Boxcar Rattle for about a month now, and despite their self-titled album being available since the summer last year, we still wanted to bring them to the attention of your ears, because…well because they’re damn good.
Taking hillbilly folk and punk and mixing it with some blues licks and a bit of psychedelia and even a smattering of surf guitar, the record bounces and bumps along at full tilt, barely pausing for breath. Have no fear though, the helter-skelter ride is a thrilling one with a number of stand out tracks on the record.
Watch the video for one of them, Hallucinogens, and check out a couple of others from the album below (including the splendidly good opener Miscommunication). You can download the whole thing on a pay-what-you-want deal from their Bandcamp page here.
