Introducing >>> Teenage Mothers

Melbourne post-punkers Teenage Mothers are a band that have crammed a lot into a short period. They were kicked off M83’s tour in Australia when their lead singer inhaled Nitrous Oxide on stage, back flipped into the crowd, and almost set the stage on fire.

Teenage Mothers’ lead singer, JK, left school at 16 to be a pro skateboarder. Then he quit the Nike team and taught himself to read. Now he’s a political activist (and still skating hard). Last year, he spent two weeks sleeping at the Occupy Melbourne protest. Until he joined Teenage Mothers, JK had never sung onstage.

The band’s guitarist (and sometimes lead vocalist) is Raphael Brous. His provocative novel I Am Max Lamm was recently published in Australia through UQP / Penguin Books. The novel will be published in the UK through Corsair this year.

So, even amongst all that, they have found time to release their debut EP on Heart Throb records. Have a listen to a couple of tracks below and pre-order it by clicking here.

  1. well, what I think?
I am shocked. This music is of such a low calibre. How in the world they can be promoted by madmackerel?
are they paying you or what?
if not, whoever is responsible for this post, should be fired.
I am not checking the music on your website to waste time. This is disrespect to your followers.
ps. by the way, it seems like “like this” bloggers, one of them is fluke, the other one is already gone.
come on now, remove this post.

    1. I am responsible for the post so I guess I should fire myself – just for liking something you didn’t?

And for the record I’ve never been paid for anything on Mad Mackerel ever. In fact it costs me a chunk of money each year to run Mad Mackerel.

So in all honesty, if you don’t like something just move on – surely music is subjective. I like Teenage Mothers. I don’t like Queen – it doesn’t mean I am right or wrong, just that those are my personal tastes. I do the blog for my own personal enjoyment so I just post things I like and it is not meant to be disrespectful to anyone ever – to say so is a little insulting and frankly to get such a negative reaction does make me wonder why I bother.

I am not going to remove the post and I don’t mind if you never read Mad Mackerel again – honestly – no problem. In fact why not go and do something positive and start your own blog instead of being negative about what I’m doing?

  2. It is a bit harsh comment, but imo, this band and this music are pretty lousy too.
Actually, you confirm this yourself in your note for this post :
pro skateboarder – political activist – had never sung onstage.
and several more stuff you added…

I like the mad mackerel, a lot. But, you don’t like Queen? Come on now :))

my two pennies : it would be great if we read about the bands you “really” like.
