Mad Mackerel Recommends...The O's

The O’s are a duo from Dallas who between them manage to kick out a hearty stew of foot-stompin’ folk, bluegrass, country rock and bar-room Americana that is likely to find favour with those who have Gram Parsons and Avett Brothers records in their collections.

Latest album, their third, is titled Thunderdog and sees a release on the 23rd July following a successful Kickstarter campaign. It is a classic roots record in the sense that it takes in the Appalachias, the honky tonk bars, and the back-porches of rural America, cataloguing the daily struggles and ups and downs of ordinary folk in a way that is honest and empathetic without ever being sentimental or contrived.

Not only that but the raucous closing track Kitty, features a banjo put through a fuzz pedal, which just sounds awesome!
