Leif Vollebekk – North Americana

Leif Vollebekk - North Americana

Over the past few weeks we have gradually been charmed and then seduced by Montreal-based songwriter Leif Vollebekk’s album North Americana, which as far as we can tell was released in Canada at the beginning of 2013, but now sees a full US release on the 28th of this month.

Tracks such as Cairo Blues, When The Subway Comes Above The Ground and Southern United States are wonderfully unhurried, the songs allowed to unfurl and stretch organically as though they have all the time in the world to reveal their charms.

And charms there are aplenty as the record mixes up shambling, storytelling folk with back porch country and even touches of soul in the vocals – in fact, North Americana is a treasure from first note to last.

Additionally in celebration of the new release, he is also giving away his recently released EP Borrowed Time, which features covers of songs by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Sigur Ros, The Killers, The Beach Boys, as well as Southern United States from the new record. Just head to NoiseTrade here to get it.

Every time you get lonesome you go and fill yourself to the brink
Find yourself a man in a suit and tie who’ll introduce you to what he drinks

He’s answering your questions funny now so you’ll wonder how he thinks
He sees his reflection in your skin, you’re gonna see yours in the hotel sinks
Staring back, the Cairo blues it never blinks
