Introducing >>> The Tarantula Waltz

Markus Svensson is a 28 year old singer-songwriter (although that is not a term he is particularly fond of) hailing from Stockholm, and the man behind the Tarantula Waltz moniker. He will release his third full-length album, Tinder Stick Neck, on the 23rd April

The record revolves around intertwined themes of hypochondria, death anxiety and atheism. It is weighty stuff, sombre in parts, but handled with a deft touch – the first single from the album, the brilliant Scandinavian Minds is a perfect example, being a meditative reflection on the effects of spending eight months of the year in darkness in northern Sweden.

He says, “When the sun finally comes back in April, some people get even more depressed, and the suicide rates are actually highest in April. Scandinavian Minds is about that phenomenon; how the darkness struggles against the light and what happens when the light finally arrives.”

Have a listen.
