Scott Bartenhagen is a native of the tiny town of Lathrop in California’s Central Valley, and a folk singer and guitar player. In Lathrop, he picked up his mum’s guitar in 6th grade, got into jazz, and eventually found his way into Tejano music group Los Bandidos, a band he toured with for several years, before engineering an indie folk sound all his own.
He has a unique style that merges folk music storytelling, the colorful harmony of jazz, and some of indie rock’s moodiness – his sound triangulates Joni Mitchell, Grizzly Bear and Jackson Browne.
His label debut, the Black Dane EP comes out on the 30th June, on New Professor Music (pre-order here). Have a listen to the intimate and lovely Beacons here.
