Introducing >>> Poltergeist

On a day when Echo & The Bunnymen fanatic Barry-Sean is foremost in our thoughts, it seems somewhat appropriate to get details of a new musical venture from Bunnymen founder members Will Sergeant and Les Pattinson. Calling themselves Poltergeist, they are a kind of instrumental space-rock project and Sargeant rather cryptically says “We want to try and get away from the traditional band format of … Continue reading Introducing >>> Poltergeist

First Song From Low’s Tenth Record…

Venerable and melancholic indie veterans Low are marking their twentieth anniversary by releasing their tenth record, The Invisible Way, on Sub Pop Records on the 18th March. Produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, the record is if anything, even starker then previous releases. It tackles large issues too, “the songs are about intimacy, the drug war, the class war, plain old war war, archaeology and love,” says founding … Continue reading First Song From Low’s Tenth Record…

Introducing >>> Wolf Alice

North London’s Wolf Alice are set to release their debut single on 11th February through Chess Club Records in the form of Fluffy. Far removed from their folk-beginnings, Fluffy rocks with the kind of ballsy and unabashed nonchalance that we haven’t heard in a good long while. Breaking from a groove-laden smack of distorted guitars and thumping drums, Ellie Rowsell’s tender vocals then take centre stage as … Continue reading Introducing >>> Wolf Alice

The Return Of Stornoway

MM faves and local boys Stornoway are following up the success of their excellent 2010 debut album Beachcomber’s Windowsill with Tales From Terra Firma which sees a release on 11th March via 4AD. It was mostly written in a camper van in land-locked Oxford but on listening, the yearning for adventure and the freedom of the coast and wild places is palpable. Whilst the band strengthened their … Continue reading The Return Of Stornoway
