New Album From The Wooden Sky

Canadian band The Wooden Sky have announced their fourth album Let’s Be Ready, will be out on the 15th June via Nevado Music. The first single Maybe It’s No Secret (out on 11th May) is an uptempo rocker that finds the band harnessing their raw live energy against a backdrop of jangly guitar riffs and sweaty drums. Have a listen. . Continue reading New Album From The Wooden Sky

MM Shorts 689: Triumph Of The Wild

We’re loving this slice of classic, old-time Americana from San Diego duo Triumph Of The Wild’s sophomore album We Come With The Dust. California to the Crossroads opens the album and is a travelling song in every sense of the word –  a powerful, foot stomping barrelhouse of a song that begs for a dusty, sun-baked open road, the windows down and the volume right up. … Continue reading MM Shorts 689: Triumph Of The Wild

Brown Bird – Bannermen

The very premature loss of Brown Bird’s Dave Lamb to leukaemia was one of the saddest events of last year, and his wife MorganEve Swain has announced the release of their final record, Axis Mundi, an album the pair recorded together before his illness took a turn for the worse. Bannermen is the first track from it, a song that highlights, as Swain says, that they were … Continue reading Brown Bird – Bannermen

Michael Dean Damron – When the Darkness Come

Michael Dean Damron, former frontman of I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House, will release his new solo album When The Darkness Come on the 24th May. It is beautifully lonely, moving between quiet acoustic contemplation to a more progressive and punk feel, all driven by Damron’s distinctive growl. Our favourite (just) is the haunting Simmer in the Pot, an acoustic piece with wonderful lyrics that features a suitably creepy … Continue reading Michael Dean Damron – When the Darkness Come

New From The Honey Ants

We have featured London duo The Honey Ants a few times on MM, and last May their Nirvana cover in particular was a real treat for the ears. Since then they have been busy writing and recording, evolving their folk roots into more complex and darker territories with elements of Southern gospel and country coming much more to the fore. The first of this brand new material to emerge blinking … Continue reading New From The Honey Ants

MM Shorts 678: Arborist

Twisted Arrow is the debut single from Belfast-based Arborist (aka songwriter Mark McCambridge) and features Kim Deal of The Breeders on backing vocals. It is a fabulous slice of rolling, countrified folk and Deal’s hushed and plaintive vocal adds weight to a familial tale of detachment and is the perfect counterpoint to McCambridge’s sharp delivery. Highly recommended this one. Stream it here. Continue reading MM Shorts 678: Arborist
