New From The Honey Ants

We have featured London duo The Honey Ants a few times on MM, and last May their Nirvana cover in particular was a real treat for the ears. Since then they have been busy writing and recording, evolving their folk roots into more complex and darker territories with elements of Southern gospel and country coming much more to the fore. The first of this brand new material to emerge blinking … Continue reading New From The Honey Ants

MM Shorts 681: Los Trasgos Muertos

Los Trasgos Muertos are a psych influenced garage rock band from Manchester, who have just put out their first eponymous EP. Some of the band also play in Hawker Reunion who have featured previously on MM, albeit with a very different sound! This though is crunchy and raw, proper riff-driven rock ‘n’ roll that is guaranteed to put hairs on your chest – whatever your gender… … Continue reading MM Shorts 681: Los Trasgos Muertos

MM Shorts 680: The Venus Lyx

The Venus Lyx is a trinity of sorts. Three brothers, all alike under a certain kind of light. The brothers Traylen. Formed a little under a year ago, the trio has since been creating and fashioning their own distinct brand of jagged freak-folk. Now they have their debut single available for your listening pleasure, however uncomfortable that might be… Keep Your Hands Off My Familiar is … Continue reading MM Shorts 680: The Venus Lyx

MM Shorts 678: Arborist

Twisted Arrow is the debut single from Belfast-based Arborist (aka songwriter Mark McCambridge) and features Kim Deal of The Breeders on backing vocals. It is a fabulous slice of rolling, countrified folk and Deal’s hushed and plaintive vocal adds weight to a familial tale of detachment and is the perfect counterpoint to McCambridge’s sharp delivery. Highly recommended this one. Stream it here. Continue reading MM Shorts 678: Arborist

Post War Glamour Girls – Southpaw Stance

In April, Leeds based Post War Glamour Girls will follow up the release of last year’s much acclaimed album Pink Fur with a brand new track Southpaw Stance, released as a split 7” single with Battle Lines through Hide & Seek Records. Mixing a glam stomp with post-punk theatrics and intelligent lyrics that are as abrasive as they are abstract, the single calls to mind the best of … Continue reading Post War Glamour Girls – Southpaw Stance

MM Shorts 677: Galanos

Taking their name from a combination of literary references and Spanish that when combined roughly translates to ‘silver tongued devils,’ Kingston, New York’s Galanos music is darkly seductive and coldly aloof at the same time. Wait For It is the debut single off of their LP Vacation Cannons, steeped in the solo sounds of Stiv Bators and early Lords of the New Church, the cinematic … Continue reading MM Shorts 677: Galanos
