We’ve long been admirers of San Franciscans The Fresh & Onlys and their catchy, jangly, garage-pop. They’ve finished recording new album Play It Strange which gets a release on In The Red on October 12th. Here are a couple of taster tracks from the album – as good as ever and certainly makes the full length something to look forward to… Visit their MySpace here. Download … Continue reading Fresh & Onlys Ready New Album
Good lord, has another week really gone by already? Trapped in the land that time forgot – that of the fundraising copywriter – I’m wondering where, when, how, but most of all why … … and as a result, I’m feeling at a bit of a loss for words. I know I’m supposed to write something short and pithy, but today I feel small and … Continue reading Mrs Mackerel’s TFI Friday
Welcome to our longest ever post, and a whole bucketful of great songs. Last weekend, Barry-Sean came with me to the End of the Road Festival and outside of the musical orgy that is SxSW, we agreed it is the best festival we’ve ever had the pleasure of attending. In fact he’s been writing about it ever since. Here’s what he has to say…. Having … Continue reading The End of the Road Festival – A Review
Suuns play blistering, dark electro and arena-sized psych complete with droning guitars and pulsing synths that call to mind the best of Suicide, Clinic and Can, and all simultaneously delivered with a youthful swagger and an assured restraint. Their forthcoming debut album is called Zeroes QC, and is out on Secretly Canadian in October (early 2011 for the UK). The band have made the second single, Up Past … Continue reading Introducing…Suuns
We were delighted this morning to find an e-mail from Emily Reo in our in-box. She is one of our very favourite experimental/ambient/darkpop songstresses, and had dropped us a line to send us a brand new collaboration with the highly regarded Blackbird Blackbird. It was a combination to whet the appetite: sampling her unique vocal style and phrasing and then looping it firmly over spectacular icy beats and … Continue reading New from Blackbird Blackbird featuring Emily Reo
Just by coincidence it seems we’ve been sent a few videos lately that have caught our eyes (and our ears), so as well as our Caitlin Rose post of yesterday, we thought we’d share these with you too. First up is psychedelic stoners The Black Angels in lighter mood with their video for Telephone. It is from new album Phosphene Dream which was released today. Download The … Continue reading Some more videos to enjoy

Caitlin Rose has unveiled the video for her new single Shanghai Cigarettes – out on the 27th September through Names Records. Fresh from seeing a stunning Phosphorescent show at the End of the Road Festival at the weekend (full review to come), we find that they have also contributed to the latest free cover CD from Mojo magazine. It is another Mojo ‘re-interpretation’ of a classic album – this time the Beatles and Let It Be. Other artists include The Jim Jones Revue, The Besnard Lakes, … Continue reading Phosphorescent cover the Beatles
Carolina Days is from Megafaun’s forthcoming mini-album Heretofore. It is a lovely, sunny slice of folk rock with happy-go-lucky harmonies and a lovely chorus that sounds like it has been hiding in the shadows of Topanga Canyon for the last 40 years waiting to be discovered. So discover it and cling on to the last days of the dwindling summer…. Visit their MySpace here. Download … Continue reading New from Megafaun
