Formed in 2009, The Pear Traps are a 5 piece band from Chicago who mix lo-fi garage rock and alt-country, and do it well. Come Home is from their new six track self-titled EP. The band describe it as “a rolling tune flush with alt-country drive, a rhythmic back-beat and echoing vocals” and having played it a few times, it seems a pretty fair description. … Continue reading Introducing…The Pear Traps
We’ve kind of missed the boat so far with Okkervil River – for whatever reason we’ve just not fallen for their slightly quirky and densely literate charms. Hopefully that may change with their latest album I Am Very Far, which seems to be picking up uniformly good reviews. First single Wake And Be Fine is typically sinewy in composition but at its heart lays something … Continue reading New from Okkervil River
Sleazy punk-blues duo My Goodness hail from Seattle and manage to drum up a fantastic cacophony of noise. They have just released their self-titled debut album on the excellent Sarathan Records. We have a taste for you in the shape of C’mon Doll and all the ingredients you want are present and correct: reverb, greasy blues riffs, distortion, impassioned lyrics and attitude – all wrapped … Continue reading Introducing…My Goodness

It is fair to say that Celebration, Florida by the superb Felice Brothers is one of our most anticipated releases of 2011. The good news is it is out on Fat Possum Records on the 10th May. Apparently the new album is chock full of new stories and casts scenes of dreamy characters and stories interwoven like a block of primetime TV. Among the tales: a young … Continue reading Felice Brothers: Celebration, Florida Album

Now having just returned from a German tour with The Chapman Family, they have been in … Continue reading Introducing…The Violet May
Brontosaurus’ debut LP, Cold Comes To Claim, will be released this spring. This bombastic LP runs the gamut – from sweeping grandeur to math-induced freak-outs. Imagine if you will, two guys who came of age with prog and classical, then transposed that aesthetic into subdued, grainy garage pop. A US tour in support of the album will start this summer during which many arguments about … Continue reading Introducing…Brontosaurus
Other Lives hail from Stillwater, Oklahoma, a small town in the vast open spaces of the mid-West, and for the past sixteen months they have been composing and recording their second album, Tamer Animals. This will get a UK release on the 29th August via Play It Again Sam Records. Underpinning Tamer Animals’ rich palette of sounds is a native dust bowl austerity: a desolate yet epic … Continue reading Introducing…Other Lives
