Polarising love him or hate him hipster Wavves offers up this new sub two-minute no-fi/lo-fi ramshackle track with ‘who cares’ vocals and a smeary, slacker style anthem of a chorus. Me? I’m quite liking it… Download Wavves – TV Luv Song mp3 (Demo) Continue reading New from Wavves
A few new videos that have caught our eye… The Airborne Toxic Event have released the first video in their new weekly video series, The Bombastic. This is a weekly series of one-shot, one-take acoustic performances by the band featuring new songs from the band’s upcoming sophomore album All At Once, to be released on April 26. This week’s video features the title track to … Continue reading New Videos
Middle Brother recently gave us the excellent track Me Me Me, and now here comes another: Middle Brother is (predictably) the title track from the band’s self-titled debut. Middle Brother is the brainchild of Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit, three individuals who have joined forces to create a kind of indie roots supergroup. We are itching to get … Continue reading More from Middle Brother
Hunx & His Punx plunge their sticky fingers into a 60s inspired lucky dip and come up trumps with Lovers Lane. It is a wonderfully entertaining, tongue-in-cheek homage to the Shangri-Las, doo-wop, bubblegum pop, beach cruising and prom night teenage angst and, of course, it finishes with the obligatory spoken word denouement – this time with flamboyantly camp overtones. We know we are a little behind … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…Hunx & His Punx
Here are a bunch of tunes that we’ve meant to post about for a while, but wanted to do them a bit more justice too than it turns out we’re able. It is the regular refrain of blogs like ours we know, but it doesn’t make it feel like any less of a cop out to not find the time to write these up properly. … Continue reading Wednesday’s Pick ‘n’ Mix Selection
It must be a day for great band names. Following our Slug Guts post come the equally magnificently named Brother Gruesome and their second 7″ release For the Morphine Makes You Comfortable. We have the A side for you, Tubes is a song about hearing a loved one speak their final words over a telephone. The B Side, Needles, makes reference to the chemical side of dying … Continue reading Introducing…Brother Gruesome
We first became aware of the marvellously named Slug Guts via the last Insound monthly mix and a top tune titled Town Tied. Slug Guts hail from the barren, heat stricken confines of Brisbane, Australia, apparently a town as desolate as it is depressing and suburban. In the first four months of the band, Slug Guts recorded their first LP Down on the Meat, and … Continue reading Introducing…Slug Guts
Here are a couple of treats for Valentine’s Day. Firstly MM faves Two Wounded Birds who featured heavily in the MM Best of 2010 lists have made a new track available especially for Valentine’s Day. Treat Me Tender is a typically Spector-drenched track with a plaintive, pleading lyric and a vocal delivery Richard Hawley would be proud of. It will be up for a limited … Continue reading Just for Valentine’s Day
The Raveonettes will return to stereos on the 5th April with the release of new album Raven In The Grave. After the best part of a decade honing their instantly recognizable sound and seeing it co-opted by so many other bands aspiring for a similar level of greatness, the Danish-bred, American-based fuzz pop duo is blazing a newer, darker trail with their new record – … Continue reading The Raveonettes Announce New Album
Indianapolis band Jookabox has decided to throw in the towel, and The Eyes of the Flyis their last cryptic transmission via Asthmatic Kitty on April 26. This recording is the final chapter in the history of a band as bizarre, anxious, and confusing as the music it makes. They are a band we’ve always had a soft spot for. A band whose imagery echoes ghosts, zombies, decay, and … Continue reading Jookabox announce new album and call it quits!
