There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.

Well a miserable week just got even more miserable. Too many music deaths this year.

I’m sure that for many of you, as he did for me, Leonard Cohen soundtracked many late nights of reflective, self-contemplation – often accompanied by too much alcohol and more. The man was a genuine poet of song, sad and sorrowful at times for sure, but nowhere near as gloomy and melancholy as portrayed – his lyrics were full of sharp wit, self deprecating humour, perceptive insights to the human condition, and often, so, so often, of astounding beauty.

I like to think that maybe he’s laughing now. What a week to turn it in. So long, Leonard Cohen. God bless you.

Far too many to choose from, but here, in no particular order, are some of our favourites.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows
