Mad Mackerel Recommends…Jason Karaban

Mad Mackerel Recommends...Jason Karaban.

Have to confess we are a little late with this, and up until last week, we didn’t know too much about Jason Karaban in advance of the release of his new album Shift, which was released at the beginning of this month.

However, his back story as a notoriously reclusive and somewhat fragile singer-songwriter encouraged us to find out more and this coupled with excellent taster track Misplaced was more than enough to persuade us a post was in order.

In his own words he “systematically destroyed everything he worked for, sabotaged any and every chance of happiness, and was diagnosed with every mental ‘disorder’ from A to Z and then spent too much time trying to live up to them”. Despite all this he has managed to release a number of well received solo releases and Shift looks like being another. Featuring a host of talented guests, they are beautiful vignettes of melodic chamber pop – warm, introspective and often gently and knowingly humorous.

Get the album here or visit his Bandcamp page here.
