We are pleased to bring you an exclusive premiere of The Winter Sounds brilliant new track The Sun Also Rises, which comes from their forthcoming full length Runner.
Gleefully appropriating the best of the eighties alternative electro-pop together with a more modern experimental approach taking in psychedelia, indie-rock and even folk, the result is a sonic delight – frenetic, anthemic, catchy, and smart enough to make even the most casual listener stop and actually think.
“The sun also rises when you’re gone, I thought you knew it all along”, frontman Patrick Keenan explains, “the idea behind the song came from some personal writings of a death-row prisoner that I read and all the details of their life swelling to extraordinary feelings of loss and sadness. Everything mundane became so beautiful in this context. From that springs an idea – what is life/what is it not? The universe will continue on without you and in one’s final moments can we really accept that it ends this way… or any way really… but that it does end and the sun will rise even when we’re gone.”
We have the brilliant video (directed by Jeffrey Moore, with overlays by Bob Jones), it is a heady mix of band shots, colour bursts and spinning kaleidoscopic effects. The end result is a rush of colours and images that perfectly captures the kind of explosive quality of that earlier revelation – one’s place in the universe – the insignificance and the everything all at once.
