Mad Mackerel Recommends… Holy Motors

Mad Mackerel Recommends... Holy MotorsA few years ago we were very taken by an EP called Four Small Bodies by a band called Blood of the Bull, and in particular a song called American Movies. Since then many, many thousands of tracks have been added to our iTunes, and we kind of forgot about the EP until the other day when we got an e-mail that mentioned the band and we instantly recalled the song.

Turns out Holy Motors are an Anglo-Canadian-American three piece featuring members of Ubre Blanca and the aforesaid Blood of the Bull, all sharing a fixation with the wild world of religious experience and quite a few things Southern Gothic. Their songs explore territory from the mundane to the supernatural, delivered in three part male/female vocal harmonies and driven, virile instrumentals.

We’re glad to report their five track Heavy Flow EP (out on cassette via the Soft Power label) is a delight from start to finish. Check out our two favourites from it below and you can order from Bandcamp here.
