It’s nice to get a unexpected surprise with a new song. Frankly, the name Hula Hoop didn’t promise too much, but on this occasion it was a case of what’s in a name? Because this is one of those effortless, simple, catchy, summer pop songs that  is a genuine top-tapping delight. The damn thing is so bouncy that you feel like you need to put on a pair of shades just to listen to it.

In fact every time we listen it makes us want to crack a cold one, crank up the stereo and catch the evening sun.

According to their MySpace page, Hula Hoop consists of Samuel Cooper and Marshall Trotter. Both graduates of Savannah College of Art and Design, Samuel majoring in Film and Marshall in Painting. They met through a mutual friend who was gathering local musicians to form a band that would perform live over an experimental film. Soon they began recording and playing shows in Downtown Savannah, Ga.

Currently, Hula Hoop is finishing their upcoming Mirror Universe Tape release which will be out this spring/summer. Reckon it could be a winner!
