Remixes & Covers: all thanks to the Wooden Shjips

As some may know MM is not a massive fan of remixes as a general rule of thumb. In truth, it is rare for us to listen to them and rarer still to actually post them. We’re a little more well disposed to covers, though again they are not usually something we post that often.

So with that said, this is a post that naturally has both a cover and a remix for you.

It is all the fault of MM faves, the marvellous Wooden Shjips.

The rumbling, psychedelic krautrockers have turned their hand to both covering LCD Soundsystem’s Drunk Girls as well as offering up a remix of new Mystery Jets tune Dreaming Of Another World.

We have generally enjoyed James Murphy’s work without ever getting too drawn into it, but if anything Drunk Girls was our favourite tune of his to date. However, it has been given a truly cosmic makeover by the Californian stoners and is available as the reverse of LCD’s 7″, and while it is an unlikely pairing it is a damn good one.

Elsewhere the ever so slightly off kilter indie rock of the Mystery Jets is transformed in six and a half minutes of expanding synth swirls and pummelling guitars into a blistering space rock haze that pulverizes the weak into submission well before the end. Superb.
