New album from Wovenhand

We’ve long had a soft spot for David Eugene Edwards and his Wovenhand moniker, rising as it did from the ashes of the highly influential, doom laden Gothic country of 16 Horsepower. New album, their fifth long player, The Threshingfloor, was officially released this week. As with all previous Wovenhand releases, the cover art is stunning.

As might be expected, it is an appropriately theatrical album with all the usual Wovenhand elements present and correct. Beneath a twisted spaghetti western feel, melodrama drips from each and every track and calls to mind everything from Nick Cave to Scott Walker to Devotchka. Try the scorched earth fuzz and fury of His Rest to get a taste for the album.
