Midlands based four-piece The Vitamin Sees only played their first gig a couple of months ago. However, made up as they are of members of bands such as 90s indie faves Prolapse, Fence Records act Viva Stereo, Dirty Backbeats and Ambrose Tompkins they have the prerequisite musical chops to deliver.
And deliver they do with Illuminati Mind Control, the demo track that they e-mailed through to us. Listing influences such as The 13th Floor Elevators, Can, and a whole list of other MM faves, we were rather hoping for the best when we played the song.
Our first impression was that it could have been an out-take from an early Spacemen 3 recording session (and we mean that in a 100% good way), it is a mesmerising and hypnotic, with a repetitive guitar riff and a laconic vocal that shuffles through to a finishing refrain and fade that intones over and over “I’ve got that empty feeling” as though all that remains is futility and a loss of hope.
We’re hoping to hear a lot more from The Vitamin Sees. Download this corker, let it melt your mind and then we reckon you’ll feel just the same.
