The label Swill Children sent us a couple of releases recently. One, a 7″ split between Brooklyn based Hunters and Montreal based Dead Wife is proving increasingly popular here at MM.

Hunters are charged with wild energy, hailing from Brooklyn, NY and led by the duo singers/guitarists, Derek Watson and Isabel Ibsen. The tribal beat and brilliant riff on Deadbeat is a perfect combination of the heavy and the accessible. It simultaneously calls to mind the punk heyday of yesteryear (without being derivative), and the lo-fi, DIY ethic of the c86 brigade. Imagine The Vaselines making music with The Ruts on a chaotic acid binge.

This is their first release, and an EP is planned soon. It’s certainly a great start and we’re hoping to hear more from them sooner rather than later.
