The new collaboration between Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and The Phantom Family Halo, called The Mindeater got its official release yesterday.

Will Oldham needs no introduction of course, but The Phantom Family Halo you may be less familiar with. For now it is enough to know that the good Family writes evil desert psych rock evocative of the chunkiness of Hawkwind and the dark theatricality of Roxy Music. Mix that with Oldham’s rustic cosmic Americana drawl, and you’ve got the exact location where monolithic stoner rock meets Sweetheart of the Rodeo.

Mindeater is out now in select stores, online, and directly from the label – Sophomore Lounge. This vinyl-only 10″ release is extremely limited… only 1,000 copies will be pressed so be quick. In the meantime, take a listen to the title track – Bonnie’s vocal performance is perhaps already one of his eeriest in years, recalling the creepy backwoods paranoia of records like Arise Therefore – we’re liking it an awful lot.
