Mad Mackerel Recommends…Mr Plow

We are loving Joyful In Song We Are by Mr Plow.

It is the band’s second album following on from 2009’s Book Of Common Despair. This latest collection of twelve self-penned tracks are what MM loves best: dark country, tragic tales interspersed with dry, black humour. Mr Plow’s rich baritone voice lingers over a backdrop of twangy Gretsch guitars, shuffling drums and zinging flat top acoustic strumming. The songs evoke the classic sounds of Johnny Cash, along with the contemporary rootsy noirisms of Nick Cave and The Handsome Family, yet still retaining the unique character that Mr Plow brings to his music.

This has been an absolute joy of a discovery – buy the album for the morbidly brilliant Typhus alone – and we’ve got us some back catalogue to track down.

It will be available on general release from Monday June 20th , both via digital download, and on compact disc (direct from Pink Box Records or Rough Trade Shops.)
