Like their name, Hookworms have relentlessly continued to burrow their way into our psyche ever since we first came across them back in January 2012. A year later we were joyously pummelled into gibbering, drooling submission by their debut album Pearl Mystic – a triumph of modern day, heavy psychedelic rock that announced them as serious British contenders to dine at the top table inhabited by the mighty Wooden Shjips, Moon Duo, Black Angels et al.
Now we have a new double A-side single, Radio Tokyo/On Returning (released 27th May on Too Pure). Shorter, sharper, more instantaneous than the Hookworms you know so far, both songs are based around skeletal structures built by de-facto front man and producer MJ’s farfisa organ.
Listen to Hookworms taking their fireball energy and myriad scorched sounds and straining, and succeeding, to keep them within tight paradigms. Fabulous.
