It has been a bonanza month at MM – our in-box overflows daily and here is another quick round-up of new stuff we’ve discovered. Once again we’re entirely failing to do the artists justice, but listen to the songs and if you like what you hear please do investigate them a bit more!

Hotel & Highways album Lost River is an easy-going folk-tinged meditation on the complexities of life that echoes the halycon days of Fleetwood Mac and CSNY. Try the effortlessly melodic Train Whistle and Heaven Knows for proof.

We are big fans of The Magnetic Fields and Stephen Merritt is one of the most original songwriters of the past twenty years. New album Obscurities, collecting rare recordings from the past 17 years promises to be one to treasure.

Gunfight! play a blend of countrified rock and classic punk that is as energetic as it is contagious. Sticks is guaranteed to get you up and out of your seat.

Handsome Furs on the other hand have given up guitars for synths on their new album Sound Kapital. Sample track Repatriated has been described already as a cross between Wolf Parade and New Order – sounds about right to us.

Indie pop duo The Demos have a new album, Lovely filled with sonically sweet offerings that include the complex, infectious vocal harmonies of Meet At Night. Cute!

We had already posted about Bahamas and Hockey Teeth is another offering from the mellow folk of album Pink Strat.

Damon & Naomi are folky dream-pop veterans with 25 years of performing together under their belts. New album False Beats and True Hearts is their first in four years, try the lovely Walking Backwards as a taste.

Lastly we have the morose violin and swirling guitar and synths of Heyo (Silver Morning) by La Big Vic, somehow they seem to take four decades of music and meld it into one blissed-out psychedelic whole.
