A couple of days ago we received in the mail a copy of Midnight Trail, the new album from The Cabin Dogs. It is released on the wonderfully named Crippled Hound label.
Formerly the Kwait Brothers Band, this is the Philadelphia based twin brothers second release under the Cabin Dogs moniker and was mostly written in isolated mountain retreats. It retains the echoes of the Grateful Dead and The Band that the first album, Electric Cabin had, but there is also a lovely sense of maturity and ease about this record that stamps it as an wholly original and authentic work.
The songs ooze with rural charm and a backwoods feel, and mix easygoing country rock with bluegrass and folk to create what they’ve called “cosmic back-porch Americana” – whatever you call it, it sounds damn good to us.
Download taster track Twilight below, and watch the video which features the beautiful landscape of central New York, the brothers playing with their young children and, of course, strumming guitars and banjos on the front porch.
