Undoubtedly one of our favourite discoveries of last year, Portugal’s Sunflowers combine pummelling Stooges style proto-garage punk with some far out psychedelics into a brew that, as well as being irresistible, would also blow a smoking hole in your speakers.
They have announced a new album, Endless Voyage (order here) which is a conceptual sci-fi record about the end of the world, the rise of the machine, doubt about one’s individuality and the acceptance of chaos (well we told you they were heavy dudes), and also shared the first single Dreamweaver.
Their classic psych punk, noisy pop sound has been polished and tamed (a little) with a fresh air of exploration into their sound. A ping pong game between pulsing drums, bouncy bass, reverberated echoes of vocals and loud schizophrenic guitars meet a mellower, smoothed electronic compositions that go deep into the band’s musical knowledge.
