Introducing…Slow Down, Molasses

Introducing...Slow Down, Molasses. We have been meaning to post about Slow Down, Molasses for a while now, and especially so since catching their set at The End of the Road Festival earlier this month.

They describe themselves as a Canadian alt/drone/folk rock band and it is as good a place to start as any. New album Walk Into The Sea was released here in the UK earlier this month and it is one of those records that seems on first listen to be the perfect musical definition of sprawling as it moves from melody to feedback, from pop hook to dream pop, from intimacy and tenderness to a wall of sound noise. But, in truth, that would be doing the record a grave dis-service as much more is at play here. Subsequent listens are like peeling back layers, each revealing a little more of the unfolding story and providing a sense of coherence and consistency of approach that is anything but sprawling.

I suspect we still have a fair way to go to persuade this album to give up all the considerable charms hidden within it, but it is an exploration that we are enjoying more with each play of the album. We think you might too.
