We came to the Black Oil Brothers via the excellent Big Rock Candy Mountain blog a good while ago. Their EP with Bethany Saint-Smith titled American Honey was a brilliant example of evocative, dusty, backwoods Americana.

By chance browsing BRCM and their end of year Best Of list over Christmas (and well worth a visit it is too), we came across them again and discovered they had released a long-player High Road To Ruin back in the summer. Better still it is available for a pay what you want download offer from their Bandcamp site here. While you’re there you can get the same offer on American Honey and a couple of other recordings too.

Take it from us, this is one album you have no excuse not to have in your iTunes. But if you need convincing grab yourself the two tracks below and another from their Steal From Thieves single, close the door, turn the lights down low and reach for the bourbon.
