Immigrant Union are a psych-folk supergroup of sorts, featuring Brent DeBoer of The Dandy Warhols, Bob Harrow of The Lazy Sons and four of Melbourne’s most exciting young musicians, Courtney Barnett, Bones Sloan, Dave Mudie and Peter Lubulawa.
They released their self-titled debut back in 2010 and a follow-up, Anyway, is set for release in late 2013. In the meantime, latest single Alison is a real grower – a steady-paced and superbly textured country song ripe with warm guitar tones, understated hooks and a dash of lyrical rawness.
The b-side, War Is Peace is, if anything, even better – an infectiously catch guitar strum and hypnotic percussion combine with singalong lyrics to create something that sounds as much 60s protest song as it does contemporary folk stomper.
Highly recommended. Order the single from their Bandcamp page here.
