Mad Mackerel Recommends...Pinkunoizu

The Drop, the new album from Danish neo-psych rockers Pinkunoizu saw a release earlier this week.

Although it had its moments, on the whole we were pretty ambivalent about their debut effort, the choppy sound mosaic and spacey folk of Free Time!, but we’re a whole lot more excited about this one.

It is still strange, unsettling and intricate, but it is also more coherent and confident, and most of the time their ambition pays off. The album is underpinned by a definite motorik rhythm, but then grabs influences and ideas from all over – tribal chants, bubbling synths, layered vocals, drone and repetition and middle-eastern harmonies are all used to good, and often surprising effect.

You can check out a couple of tracks here, listen to the drifting, restless The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and watch the video for Moped.
