Brilliant band name and not a bad album title either.

Bitch Prefect’s new long player Bird Nerds is out now (order via Bedroom Suck Records), and delivers a wonderfully skewed and idiosyncratic exploration of indie rock and pop.

There are jangly detours into psychedelia, ramshackle rock and plenty more besides, with touch points ranging from the pastoral ramblings of Woods to the forceful repition of the Fall and Pavement’s casual insouciance.

Rather like a butterfly, the band don’t dwell on anything particularly, preferring to move from place to place and song to song in a way that suggests improvisation and experimentation are always to the fore. But at the heart of this record are a set of songs that observe and document the minutiae of everyday life – ups and downs – in such a way that engages and then engrosses in a subtle and wholly disarming manner.
