Anti-folk hero Jeffrey Lewis is back with a new record. Manhattan is his seventh studio album, and his first since 2011’s A Turn In The Dream-Songs.
Whilst the album is named after, and inspired by, New York, the city of which Lewis is a lifelong resident, it is done so in a way that links his wryly detached observations of his hometown to his emotionally rich and scalpel sharp songwriting.
Listen to Outta Town below, a song Lewis describes thus: “how empty life feels when you are in a relationship and that person’s not there, because you don’t remember how to have a relationship with yourself, you broke up with yourself when you started dating the other person. You have to learn how to start dating yourself all over again.”
