Next month Hayes Carll will release his new album Lovers and Leavers.

The new record is his first since 2011’s acclaimed KMAG YOYO (& Other American Stories) – since that last album, Carll has been through divorce and subsequently re-found love, thus the title and subject matter of Lovers and Leavers.

Listen to the new single taken from it, The Magic Kid, inspired by his son’s love of magic. It is a wonderfully spare, reflective country song with a simple guitar twang and some poetic vocals. The sort of thing that is much harder to do than it seems.
