A Festive Round-Up

Here is a nice selection of ten new festive tunes to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Kick off with Calexico, who have shared their version of John & Yoko’s classic Happy Xmas (War Is Over).

Porridge Radio sign off the year with the release of their original Christmas song The Last Time I Saw You (O Christmas) via Secretly Canadian.

Nashville indie outfit Creature Comfort has released their new holiday single Christmas in Quarantine – no prizes for guessing the motivation behind that.

Welsh slacker-rock four-piece Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard have shared their new festive single and video Christmas Is Coming (We All Know The Score).

Dream Nails have released Lonely Star (Christmas Song) with the band taking inspiration from the Christmas song books of Phil Spector and Weezer to write their own punk Christmas soundtrack, with a heart.

Ron Gallo has a cover of the classic Irving Berlin tune White Christmas, his sincere crooner-cover emits nostalgia and warmth.

Bradley Palermo & The Shadow Queens have shared their left-field offering of dark folk, Satan Won The War on Christmas.

Arkells have released their first-ever penned holiday original song Pub Crawl, a celebration about an annual festive pilgrimage.

The Aislers Set closed out the last century by sculpting endearing and infectious songs out of the best elements of the rock n’ roll’s pop luminaries—from the wall-of-sound of ‘60s girl-groups to the austere melodicism of The Velvet Underground on through the charisma of the revered C86 Brit pop scene and to countless niches in between. Ten years after it was recorded the band’s Cold Christmas is finally available, as the songwriting duo trade verses against a backdrop of jangling electric guitars and trumpet calls.

And finally, MM fave Sharon Van Etten’s wonderful take on Silent Night
